Al Hilal issue incredibly short statement after terminating Neymar's contract as staggering cost of disastrous signing revealed

Neymar has had his contract at Al Hilal terminated by mutual consent.

Al Hilal issued an incredibly short statement after agreeing to terminate Neymar's contract.

Neymar joined the Saudi Pro League side for £77.6 million in the summer of 2023.

But he only managed to play seven matches for the club after being hit with several injuries.

This season, he has featured in just two games and hasn't played since November.

Neymar has since parted ways with Al Hilal, who terminated his contract by mutual consent.

The club took to social media to post a brief statement in the wake of the superstar forward's Saudi Arabia departure.

On X, the Saudi Pro League side wrote: "Al Hilal and Neymar Jr. have agreed to terminate the player’s contract by mutual consent.

"Thank you and good luck, Neymar."

The 32-year-old endured a nightmare spell in the Middle East as Al Hilal's transfer proved to be a disastrous and expensive signing.

Before his contract was terminated, he earned a weekly base salary of £1.6 million, according to Capology.

Last year, it is believed he was paid around £84.6 million for his services.

So, for the 42 minutes of action he played for Al Hilal, Neymar earned £42.4 million per appearance, £2 million per minute and a staggering £920,000 for each touch of the ball.

Neymar is set to return to Brazil with Santos, having cut his ties with Al Hilal.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the Brazilian will travel to his homeland for a medical before completing his return to Santos.

He made his name at Santos, scoring 136 goals in 225 appearances for the club.

His performances in Brazil prompted Barcelona to sign him, splashing out £48 million to lure him to Spain.

Neymar enjoyed four prolific seasons at Barca, where he forged a lethal partnership with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

He helped the Spanish giants to Champions League glory in 2015 before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of £200 million.

After a brief spell in Saudi Arabia, an emotional return to Santos is on the cards.
