Roy Keane has called for a player to be fined ‘a week’s wages’ after making a mistake which led to a goal.
Keane appeared on a panel with Micah Richards, Theo Walcott, and Paul Merson, and showed clear disgust for the player’s performance.
This came in their commentary of today’s match between Brighton and Nottingham Forrest following Danny Welbeck’s free kick goal.

Brighton and Forrest both continued their unbeaten starts to the Premier League season with an eventful 2-2 draw.
Keane called for the Forrest goalkeeper, Matz Sels, to give up a week’s wages for allowing Welbeck’s free kick to beat him on the goalkeeper’s side.
Welbeck, who is not a regular free kick taker, curled the ball into the right-hand side of the goal, with Sels being left flat footed after taking a step towards the wall.

Theo Walcott said of the free kick: “It’s one of those… the goalkeeper has got to be doing better there.”
Keane followed up by saying: “Do you know what, Goalkeepers, you should be fined a weeks wages when that goes in.”
When asked to clarify by host David Jones he said:
“You can’t be beaten on that side. He’s leaned to that side, I’d fine him a week’s wages. It’s so poor.

“He’s took a gamble, leaned to his right”, Keane said, before again stating: “You can’t be beaten on that side”.
Whilst Forest fans weren’t calling for Sels to be fined wages in the same way, many were not happy with his performance.

One Forest fan tweeted saying: “What on earth was Sels doing there? Just absolutely rooted to the spot. Seriously need better in January”.
Another said: “Sels is absolutely and utterly bang f**king average. His side and not even in the f**king corner.”
A rival fan tweeted saying: “If Matz Sels finds whichever pr**k his glued his feet to the floor he’s going to give them hell.”

The match was chaotic, with both managers being sent off after Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White received a red card for a horrific challenge on Joao Pedro.
The Premier League have said the managers received a red for: “Unacceptable technical area behaviour.”
