Ozil confirmed he was calling time on his career at the age of 34, after a short spell with Turkish side İstanbul Başakşehir.

"But in recent weeks and months, having also suffered some injuries, it’s become more and more clear that it’s time to leave the big stage of football.
“It has been an amazing journey filled with unforgettable moments and emotions. I want to thank my clubs - Schalke 04, Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Arsenal FC, Fenerbahce, Basaksehir and the coaches who supported me, plus team-mates who have become friends.”

Ozil played for the Gunners between 2013 and 2021, where he managed 54 goals and 33 assists in 184 Premier League appearances.
He helped Arsenal to lift three FA Cups at the Emirates, where he established himself as a fan favourite before making the switch to Fernebahce in 2021, as Arteta led the club in a different direction.
Former Premier League and Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie was also quick to respond, referring to Ozil as a "magician".
"What a magician," Bolasie tweeted. "Congrats on a great career, a pleasure to play against you and to watch you ball out for Arsenal. The vision was different."
