Mesut Ozil makes promise to Tottenham fans if they avoid defeat to Man City and help Arsenal's title bid

The former Arsenal star has made a promise to Spurs fans.

Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has made a promise to Tottenham Hotspur fans if their side avoids defeat to Manchester City.

Spurs have endured a mixed first season under Ange Postecoglou, but they could still play a major role in deciding the Premier League title race.

Tottenham face defending champions Man City on Tuesday night, with the visitors needing to win in North London to stay in the driving seat heading into the final day.

If City drop points, then Arsenal will likely win a first title since 2004 if they beat Everton on Sunday.

Given their hatred of Arsenal, many Spurs supporters are feeling conflicted.

It's difficult for any football fan to wish defeat on their own team, but Tottenham fans know that a win or draw on Tuesday will drastically increase the chances of their North London rivals being crowned Premier League champions.

It's a strange situation for Arsenal fans too, as they aren't used to cheering on their neighbours.

However, that's exactly what former Gunners ace Mesut Ozil will be doing on Tuesday evening.

The former midfielder, who spent eight years at the Emirates Stadium between 2013 and 2021, has even issued a promise to Spurs fans if their team does Arsenal a favour.

On Tuesday Ozil posted on X: "First time ever tonight: COME ON YOU SPURSSS!! If Tottenham don't lose this game I will never make fun of them again... I promise."

A win for Spurs would leave Arsenal one point clear of City heading into the final day, but even a draw would leave Mikel Arteta's side in control thanks to their superior goal difference.

In that event, and if both title contenders win on the final day, then City would need a four-goal swing to secure a fourth straight Premier League crown.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning some Arsenal fans let off fireworks outside what they believed to be City's hotel, but Pep Guardiola's side didn't travel down to London until later that day.
