Former Arsenal man Mesut Ozil’s performance against Leicester City has been labelled as the best individual performance in Premier League history.
It was back in 2018 when Ozil produced this spectacular display. Unai Emery was in the dug out and Arsenal were potential title challengers.
The night started badly for the Gunners, they went behind in the 31st minute after a cross by Ben Chilwell was deflected into his own net by Hector Bellerin. That goal woke Arsenal up and most importantly woke Ozil up also as he went on to produce a phenomenal display.

The German sparked into life as he drew his side level just before half time, he spread the ball out wide to Bellerin and then sprinted into the box to meet the Spanish right back’s cross, beautifully sweeping a low drive past Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel.
From then on, Arsenal played like a completely different team, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was brought on in the 61st minutes and two minutes later, he put the Gunners ahead.
Ozil again played a part as he picked out a sublime defence splitting pass to find Bellerin again who was in acres of space to put in a low cross that was expertly finished off by Aubameyang.

The final goal of the night was without a doubt the best, and of course Ozil was heavily involved.
Ozil first dummied the ball to allow Alexandre Lacazette to pick up possession in space, the Frenchman then found Ozil inside the area, with Schmeichel quickly coming off his line to try and smother the ball, Ozil had to think fast and that was exactly what he did. He delicately clipped the ball over the keeper and Aubameyang was there again to easily tap home.
The goal was a contender for Goal of the Season, it was the icing on the cake after a breath taking display from the Gunners.
That performance against Leicester was without doubt one of the highlights of Emery’s tenure at the Emirates stadium, the Spaniard time in charge of Arsenal ended in absolute disarray but the fans will always have that night against Leicester to fondly look back on.

Since leaving Arsenal in 2021, Ozil has been playing in Turkey for Fenerbahce, but his time in Turkish football has been badly hit by injuries. To date, the German has made a total of 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring just nine goals.
But Ozil will for sure go down in history as one of the best players to ever play in the Premier League.
