Fabrizio Romano has revealed Erik ten Hag remains a "big fan" of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
The 21-year-old was one of Ten Hag's initial transfer targets when he arrived at Old Trafford, with the Dutchman eager to upgrade United's back four.
But according to Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf (via Metro), Timber turned down a move as he wanted guaranteed first team football ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

He instead signed a short-term deal at Ajax, leaving the door open to a big European move in the future.
Timber has made 35 appearances for Ajax this season and played a key role in the Netherlands' World Cup campaign, starting four of their five matches under Louis van Gaal.
However, Ten Hag has reportedly not given up on the youngster and could reignite his pursuit in the summer.
Ten Hag remains a "big fan" of Timber
Transfer expert Romano told Caught Offside: “Erik ten Hag is always been big fan of Jurrien Timber but there’s nothing new or concrete at this stage,” Romano said. “Nothing to report about Manchester United, as of now.

“Ajax don’t even want to speak to clubs about Timber now, so it will be something to see in June – for sure, Timber signed a short contract last year because his dream remains to join another top European club in the future.”
Whilst United aren't short of options at the back, with Raphael Varane and Lissandro Martinez currently Ten Hag's first choice defensive pairing, there could still be room for Timber.
Both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have fallen out of favour this season and have been rumoured with a move away from Old Trafford, potentially paving the way for Timber's arrival.
He could also help provide competition at right back, having been deployed there several times over his career.

Timber recently hinted that he could be tempted by a move away from the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Speaking in an interview (quotes via Metro), Timber opened up on his Ajax future: "Transfer? You never know what crosses your path. This summer I will look at my options and make a decision
"I feel good at Ajax, that's important for now. Last summer there was interest, but I chose to stay at Ajax."
United can expect to pay around €45million (£40m) to secure the player's services, according to Transfermarkt.
