There have been no negotiations between Liverpool and Sporting Lisbon for Matheus Nunes as of yet, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Reports in Portugal emerged on Thursday morning that the Merseyside club were set to make a move for Nunes as they look for an alternative midfield option to Jude Bellingham, who has been described as ‘untouchable’ by Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Portuguese publication Correrio de Manha even stated that the Reds were ready to meet Sporting’s £45 million asking price for one of Europe’s hottest prospects.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has rubbished these rumours, tweeting:
“No bid or negotiations for Matheus Nunes to Liverpool, as things stand. Nothing has changed around this deal.”
Nunes made 50 appearances across all competitions for Sporting last season, scoring four times.
He has also broken into the Portugal national team and is expected to feature at this winter’s World Cup in Qatar.

The stories linking the 23-year-old with a move to the North West came as a shock, as just days prior to the reports, Romano revealed that Liverpool made an enquiry into Bellingham’s availability this summer.
But the German side remain adamant that they will not let both Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland, who has recently joined Manchester City, leave in the same window.
As much as either Nunes or Bellingham would represent marquee signings for Liverpool and would freshen up their ageing midfield, it would appear they will make their move for a new player in this position next summer.
Having already brought in Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay in this window, Jurgen Klopp is now expected to focus on outgoing business.

The likes of Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino, Neco Williams and Divock Origi have already left Anfield this window, but an extensive list of players on the club’s books are still expected to leave on loan before the window is up.
