Liverpool are locked in a battle with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of prolific goal scorer Marcus Thuram who is out of contract this summer.
The French international has scored 10 goals in 18 Bundesliga appearances this season at German side Borussia Mönchengladbach.
With his contract expiring in the summer Gladbach were expected to cash in while they still could in January, but despite links to several clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United he stayed put.

Now that he will be available for free even more clubs are circling and according to TeamTalk, the Reds and Spurs see this as a good option to improve their ranks without spending huge amounts of money.
Both clubs already strengthened their attacking options last month with Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo from PSV and Spurs signing Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal and Pedro Porro from Sporting CP.
'Bargain of the summer'
Liverpool's woes this season have been well documented with many highlighting their lack of investment in the squad as the reason for falling behind their rivals.

However, after losing Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich they have strengthened by bringing in Darwin Nunez and Gakpo.
So it would make a lot more sense to focus their efforts on improving other areas of the team.
Thuram is an attractive option and has been described by Spanish outlet AS, as reported in SportWitness, as the 'bargain of the summer'.
So if the Reds and Spurs are serious about pursuing him then they'll have to make sure they secure Champions League qualification first.

The player's lucrative status means that he will attract interest from clubs in Europe's premier competition and it's highly unlikely he would turn them down.
Jurgen Klopp's side faces a mighty battle as they currently sit 11 points off fourth placed Newcastle United whereas Antonio Conte's Spurs only have four points to make up.
