Manchester United couldn't complete a vital summer transfer that would have revolutionised Erik ten Hag's team.
The Red Devils brought in five players across the window with Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte all joining the club.
Former Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui also added further options at the back as Ten Hag looks to build on their FA Cup success last season.

But another key signing is said to have failed to come to fruition with three clubs rumoured to have been interested.
According to South American journalist Gaston Edul, Tottenham fended off wholesale interest from not only Manchester United for Cristian Romero.
PSG and Real Madrid are also said to have enquired about the availability of the 26-year-old.

Romero joined the Lilywhites back in 2022 and has quickly become a standout performer for the club.
Ange Postecoglou is said to be a huge fan of the Argentinian and his stock has continued to rise over the last 12 months.
A World Cup winner with his country back in 2022, Romero has played every minute for Spurs this season.

He even opened his tally for the campaign with a goal in the 4-0 win over Everton last month.
Valued by Transfermarkt at €65m (£54.7m), the report also states how Tottenham were unwilling to listen to any offers for the defender.
Postecoglou has previously spoke glowingly of the former Atalanta man, insisting his influence in the side is larger than most.
"The way our defensive side of the game has come together... the one constant and the rock in that [much-changed defensive unit] has been Romero, with the way he's taken on that responsibility of guiding those other guys around him so that they look assured," said the former Celtic boss back in 2023.

"I think they feel security having him beside them, he's a big part of why we've done so well defensively.
"And there's more to come from him.
"He wants to improve and he works hard every day.
"He's a winner - you can see that in him with the way he trains and the way he plays, and that helps from a cultural perspective as well."
