Brazilian youngster Joao Gomes has rejected his latest contract offer from Flamengo amid his public desire to join Liverpool.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Gomes revealed “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play.”
He continued “playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

However, it is understood that Gomes’ desire isn’t backed up by any formal interest from Jurgen Klopp's side.
One European club who have been tracking the youngster’s development are Manchester United though.
According to ESPN, United scouts went to watch Gomes play for Flamengo last season.
At 21-years-old, if Gomes is to realise his desire of playing football in Europe at the top level, he likely needs a move away from Brazil sooner rather than later.

Nevertheless, it is usually the case that Brazil’s very best talents get snapped up much earlier in their career.
Gomes’ ceiling regarding his performance ability thus may not correlate with his ceiling regarding his ambitions.
However, it would seem that the Brazilian is attempting to force his way to the top this summer.
As per journalist Julio Miguel Neto, Gomes has rejected the opportunity to extend his current contract with Flamengo.

One would suspect that Gomes is aware that a new deal with his current club would make him more difficult to purchase for a European side.
As such, he could be weighing up his options before the transfer window slams shut.

It is unclear though whether there is any formal interest in the 21-year-old from Europe.
Having been scouted by Manchester United, his talent is clearly respected, but that doesn’t necessarily mean an offer is on its way for the youngster.
And with Liverpool seemingly finished with their incoming transfer business dealings for the summer, Gomes’ dream of a move to Liverpool almost certainly won’t be satisfied this transfer window.
