Liverpool are in talks with Naby Keita and Joe Gomez over new contracts and hope they can tie both of them down before the new season kicks off.
While Keita has just a year remaining on his current deal, Gomez still has two years left but has been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent months.
Neither player received regular minutes last season under Jurgen Klopp, with the Guinean making just 14 Premier League starts while the Englishman managed just four in the top flight.

Keita did make 40 appearances across all competitions, though, while Gomez made just 21,
The defender fell down the pecking order, behind the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and new arrival Ibrahima Konate.
Despite clearly being viewed as squad players, Liverpool feel both play important roles at the club, and are eager to tie them down to new deals.
According to the Athletic, talks with Keita are ongoing, with his case more urgent given his current deal is expiring in 12 months.

With no further arrivals expected in the midfield department, Klopp is keen to maintain depth in this position and keep hold of the 27-year-old.
With Gomez’ current deal not expiring until 2024, there is less pressure to negotiate with him as quickly, although the Merseyside club do plan to propose a new deal to the England international soon.
The defender is thought to want guarantees of increased game time in any new deal, having made just 10 Premier League starts over the last seasons for the Reds.
]With the World Cup in Qatar this winter approaching, the 25-year-old will be desperate to impress Gareth Southgate and work himself back into the national team set-up.

Minutes on the pitch for his club will be pivotal in doing so.
While Gomez has played predominantly as a centre-back for Liverpool, last season he was often used as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

With the signing of Calvin Ramsay presumably designed to take this latter role, you’d expect the former Charlton man to need assurances of minutes in the middle of the Anfield side’s defence.
