Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Joe Gomez played one of the worst games of his career on Wednesday night against Napoli
Gomez started the game at centre-back with Virgil van Dijk, and the two have a traditionally good record when partnered together. However, a lacklustre first half performance saw the Englishman hauled off by Klopp at halftime.
The Merseyside club have struggled to find their feet so far in the Premier League, with two wins from their first six games and their sorry start to the season seems to have continued in the European compeition as they suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Napoli.

Within 10 minutes the Reds were already down 1-0 after a Milner handball led to a penalty that was slotted away by Zielinski. The Italian side dominated the half and found themselves up 3-0 at the break.
Gomez was undoubtedly at fault for the third goal and Carragher was far from impressed with the 25 year-olds performance.
“I mean the defending is shocking,” said Carragher. “Gomez just had one of the worst halves of football he is possibly ever going to have. That’s why he had to come off at half-time.

“It should have been four or five at half-time, not just three."
"To concede the goals Liverpool did in the first half, then two minutes into the second half, to concede a goal like that.
“I mean, we are talking about players that have won the Champions League and the Premier League. It’s embarrassing. It’s a bit of a joke really to see players defending at this level like that.”
It has been a tough few weeks for the Liverpool defence, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk also facing criticism for their performances this season and Gomez is the latest player in the pundits’ firing line.

Klopp will be desperately hoping his defenders can find some form soon and revive his side’s season.
