Liverpool fans have joked club legend Steven Gerrard spent five minutes 'tapping up' long-term transfer target Jude Bellingham live on BT Sport.
The Reds need midfield reinforcements due to a lack of investment in recent years. They've not signed a first-team central midfielder permanently since Thiago Alcantara in 2020.
Arthur arrived from Juventus on a season-long loan last summer, but his time on Merseyside has been marred by injury.

It's no secret that manager Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of Borussia Dortmund sensation Bellingham. The 19-year-old played every minute of Dortmund's domestic campaign before the World Cup break.
He then impressed with England at the World Cup, scoring in a 6-2 victory over Iran and running the show in a 3-0 triumph over Senegal in the round of 16.
It'll cost a significant amount of money to get Bellingham out of Signal Iduna Park in the summer. Other clubs rumoured to be interested are Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Gerrard is desperate to see Bellingham at Anfield and usher in a new era of success. Ahead of Liverpool's game against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, he even claimed he'd be happy to get involved in negotiations.
When asked about Bellingham, Gerrard replied: "All he needs to do is send his diary to me, when he's got a free day. I'll fly to Dortmund personally, take him out for a nice dinner and we'll talk about it."
Gerrard's comments have since gone viral on social media. Fans believe Gerrard is doing more work on a potential transfer than anyone involved in Liverpool's recruitment team.
