Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is in Bahrain for a weekend of F1 action and the Sky Sports social team leapt at the chance to slip in a joke.
Reds legend Gerrard, also the former manager of Rangers and Aston Villa as well as Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, has been out of football since January but returned to the spotlight in the Middle East as an enthusiastic spectator at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
McLaren's Oscar Piastri secured pole position with Gerrard watching on in the heart of the Sakhir desert. The Australian starts Sunday's race in third place in the 2025 driver standings behind team-mate Lando Norris and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Sky Sports F1 took a moment out to poke fun at Champions League winner Gerrard, invoking one of the major memes of his management career.
Having spotted the resemblance between the iconic sound of F1 cars at full pelt and the first half of the "Yeeeah, course" tic that so amused fans during Gerrard's time in charge of Rangers and Villa, the Sky Sports F1 social team stitched the two together over footage of the Liverpool hero watching the action in Bahrain for a cheeky TikTok.
Followers reacted exactly as expected and the comments flowed.

"This is outrageous from the official Sky account," replied one user.
"It's funny but maybe a little disrespectful by an official Sky account," said another.

One TikTok follower proclaimed the post "peak memery" while another welcomed the "emotional damage".

"Jesus, they did him dirty," read one reply.
"Done him dirty," agreed another.
"Watch them still try [to] get an interview from him now as well," predicted one user. "Violation."
Inevitably, Gerrard's playing career and one infamous moment got an airing too.

"Think he had slick tyres on against us," parped one Chelsea fan in the replies, referring to the former England midfielder's costly slip in the 2013-14 Premier League title race.
But it wasn't all good stuff.
"Better not slip onto the track," joked another user.
"Any slippy cars?" asked one follower who clearly understood the joke but didn't have the tools to execute it.
