His showing in Europe was his 10th appearance of the season, but the majority of those have been from the bench.
The 25-year-old is thought to be 'disgusted' by the way Xavi has treated him this season.
That's according to Spanish outlet SPORT, who claim De Jong thought he was going to have a 'decisive' role at Barca.

He's unhappy with the Barca boss, who has also benched him in games against Bayern Munich, Sevilla, Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo.
Xavi has preferred Sergio Busquets as well as superstar talents Pedri and Gavi in midfield.
He also does not view the Dutch international as a long-term replacement for the ageing Busquets.
De Jong's current situation at the Camp Nou could reignite Manchester United's pursuit of the star midfielder.

Of course, Erik ten Hag was hellbent on signing his former player following his appointment at Old Trafford.
But he was unsuccessful in his attempt to lure De Jong to Man United.
However, further reports suggest Ten Hag is still interested in snapping up the ex-Ajax man and hasn't been put off by his resistance to leave Spain last summer.

De Jong was Ten Hag's No.1 transfer target last summer, with the Man United boss eventually securing the services of Casemiro.
The Red Devils shelled out £60 million to prize him away from Real Madrid.
But it appears Ten Hag remains keen on bringing De Jong to Man United.
Will he finally get his man next summer? Watch this space.
