Jose Mourinho’s prediction of Xabi Alonso’s future has gone viral again.
Back in October 2022, Alonso was hired by Bayer Leverkusen to replace Gerardo Seoane with the club sitting second from bottom after eight matches.
Under the guidance of the former Liverpool midfielder, Leverkusen shot up the table to finish in sixth place whilst also reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League.

This season, Leverkusen have made a brilliant start as they currently sit top of the Bundesliga table, four points ahead of champions Bayern Munich.
On the back of his remarkable start to life as a manager, a video of Mourinho predicting Alonso to become a manager has reemerged.
Speaking at a Top Eleven conference back in 2019, Mourinho said: “His father was a manager, so he grew up similar to me. Then he became a player – of course much better than I was.

“He became a player, a top player. His position on the pitch and his knowledge of the game – very high.
“He played in Spain, in England and in Germany. And he was coached by Guardiola with Bayern, by myself in Real Madrid, by Ancelotti in Real Madrid, by Benitez in Liverpool.”
Mourinho continued: “So, I think if you put all this together, Xabi has the conditions to be a very good coach.”

Alonso has also been linked with becoming Jurgen Klopp’s replacement at Liverpool when the German calls time on his Anfield tenure.
According to German news outlet BILD, Alonso has a clause in his Leverkusen contract that allows him to join Liverpool as early as next summer if an approach is made.
Apart from Liverpool, it is believed that the clause is also available to the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern.
However, Real might not be looking for a new manager anytime soon as it was confirmed last month that Carlo Ancelotti has signed a new contract with Los Blancos.
