Shocking scenes as PSG ultras attack a pub full of Newcastle fans in Paris

Paris Saint Germain are set to take one Newcastle United in the Champions League on Tuesday night

There were unsavoury scenes in France as a pub full of Newcastle United fans was attacked by a group of Paris Saint Germain ultras.

On Tuesday night, French giants PSG will host Premier League side Newcastle as the Magpies look to keep their Champions League campaign alive.

Ahead of the crucial clash, a video circulated on social media showing Newcastle fans clashing with PSG ultras. You can watch the footage below.

As shown in the video, the travelling Magpies fans were trying to block the doors to prevent PSG ultras from entering the pub.

Flares, chairs and glasses were thrown as tension rose between the two sets of supporters.

On the back of the incident, the Newcastle United Supporters’ Club wrote on social media: “Stay safe in Paris tonight. Stick together and look after each other.”

It was reported that the local police had warned pubs hosting away fans to consider closing their doors earlier in a bid to reduce the risk of violence.

Heading into the match, Newcastle know they have to get at least one point to keep their Champions League dream going.

After back-to-back defeats against German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, Eddie Howe’s men are currently third in Group F, one point behind PSG and two behind leaders Dortmund.

If Newcastle lose against the French club and Dortmund get at least one point against AC Milan, the Magpies will be eliminated from the Champions League.

Speaking ahead of the match, Howe said: “We will need every ounce of energy to get a result.

“This is a defining moment in our Champions League campaign, we are going to give it everything. It is imperative we don't lose.”

Newcastle will be drawing on the fact that they managed to get the better of PSG at St.James’ Park when they thrashed the French champions 4-1 in October.
