Newcastle have made a mammoth opening offer for one of their top targets and look to be closing in on their first summer signing.
The Magpies finished seventh in the Premier League on 60 points but Manchester United's FA Cup win denied them European football next season.
They were slated to participate in the Europa Conference League until United beat City at Wembley.
And although there are financial regulations to adhere to, there's word on Newcastle moving a step closer to their first addition.

The North East outfit have been linked with Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and the latest report claims they are prepared to meet Los Che's valuation.
According to Pedro Morata of Cope, the club have submitted a €41 million for the Georgian, who is set to play in his first major international tournament at Euro 2024.
The bid meets the asking price from Peter Lim and Valencia and the proposal is said to have been made through agent Marian Khadour.

The ball is now in Valencia's court but the fee could be too much for them to turn down.
Nick Pope had been Newcastle's first-choice ever since joining from Burnley but suffered a shoulder injury in December which put him out for virtually the rest of the season.
After Martin Dubravka deputised, the English shotstopper came in to play the final game of the season against Brentford - playing 90 minutes in a 4-2 win.
23-year-old Mamardashvili joined Valencia permanently in 2021 and has gone on to become a mainstay in between the sticks.

Newcastle are also reported to be nearing the completion of a deal for Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly.
Kelly's contract expired at the Vitality Stadium and The Telegraph say Newcastle will look to get the free transfer over the line this week, with further talks planned.
Eddie Howe signed Kelly from Bristol City for £13 million in 2019.
