Coleen and Wayne Rooney have been together for over two decades, but where they got engaged was far from a typical candle-lit dinner, to say the least.
Coleen, 38, and Wayne, 39, began dating as teenagers, having both been raised in the north Liverpool suburb of Croxteth.
Their then-fledgling romance coincided with Wayne’s rise to fame, scoring against Arsenal for Everton at just 16 years old in 2002.

Coleen, who is currently taking part in the popular reality show ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ has opened up about various aspects of being married to one of England’s most famous footballing icons.
She revealed that Wayne used to write her poems while he was away in hotel rooms.
“Wayne’s always wrote me poems,” Coleen told fellow contestant GK Barry while speaking on a previous episode aired on ITV X.

“You know the hotel pads?” she added.
“He was always writing a little poem and putting it in his bag, and he’d give it to me when we got home.”
However, during Sunday’s episode, she explained how Wayne’s engagement proposal was less romantic.
In the episode, the contestants had to guess special words and phrases from their friends and families.

Coleen successfully guessed ‘petrol station’ to the bemusement of her fellow participants and views at home.
But she then explained the reason the words were significant, revealing how Wayne had, in fact, popped the question to her at a petrol station when he was 18 and she was 17.
“I knew it was gonna happen, but I definitely didn’t know it was gonna be in a petrol station, but I’m glad we didn’t do it in a restaurant, to be honest with you,” she explained.

The Liverpool-born media personality previously explained what happened in her autobiography 'My Account: The Official Autobiography', released last year.
“I can't even remember what now, but whatever it was must have put me in a bit of a mood.
“As we pulled in at a petrol station, I folded my arms and sighed. ‘Do you know? I don't really feel like going for something to eat now.’”
'"No, neither do I," Wayne said, turning off the car engine.

"Only, the thing is, while we were there, I was going to do this..."
“Before I knew it, I had an emerald-cut diamond ring on my finger, and I rang mum and dad to tell them our big news. Little did I know, he'd already asked my dad's permission, so they knew it was coming.”
