'I have heard' - Fabrizio Romano confirms Man United are set to make move for break-out Premier League star

United are set to overhaul their squad this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United are strongly considering a move for a breakout Premier League star this summer.

This summer promises to be one of change at Manchester United, with new minority owners INEOS - headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe - set to oversee a major squad overhaul.

Now that Erik ten Hag's future has been resolved - he is expected to soon sign a new contract - and the transfer window has officially opened, it shouldn't be long before new faces start arriving at Old Trafford.

Pretty much every area of Ten Hag's squad needs strengthening, but left-back is one of the priorities.

Luke Shaw is United's starting left-back, but the 28-year-old has endured an injury-hit decade since arriving from Southampton. Last season the England international featured in just 12 Premier League games.

Second-choice left-back Tyrell Malacia missed the entirety of 2023-24 after undergoing knee surgery in July 2023.

Ten Hag was forced to deploy on-loan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat at left-back on several occasions last term, but the Moroccan never looked comfortable out of position.

In a bid to resolve their problem position, United are now reportedly considering a move for Bournemouth youngster Milos Kerkez.

According Fabrizio Romano, United have "genuine" interest in the 20-year-old who only joined the South Coast club last summer.

"Manchester United's interest is genuine, so I think Kerkez could be one of the options, but not the only one from what I have heard," Romano told GIVEMESPORT.

"They are also assessing other options. I think they're waiting to see what happens with any other opportunities in the market for that position, and they they will make a decision. But left-back is another position they want to cover for this summer, for sure."

Bournemouth would likely demand a significant fee for the Hungarian defender, given that they signed him AZ Alkmaar just 12 months ago for around £15.5 million.

United are also reportedly targeting deals for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte and Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.
