Paul Scholes snubs Cristiano Ronaldo as he names his top five Manchester United players of all time

The legendary midfielder had no place for his former team-mate.

Paul Scholes has snubbed selecting Cristiano Ronaldo when asked to select his top five Manchester United players of all time.

The 50-year-old spent his entire career at United and was the creative cog in Sir Alex Ferguson's central midfield during a trophy laden spell at Old Trafford.

Scholes scored 155 goals in 718 appearances for the Reds after coming through the youth team ranks at United as part of the famous Class of 92.

Scholes won a grand total of 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League crowns, three FA Cups, the Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup during his time at United.

During his time at United between 2003 and 2009, Scholes was a team-mate to Ronaldo after he arrived from Sporting Lisbon.

Ronaldo went on to become the best player on the planet at United before departing for a then world record £80m to Real Madrid, before returning to United in 2021 from Juventus.

However, the Portuguese attacker's second spell at Old Trafford did not meet the lofty heights that his first did and he left in acrimonious circumstances.

His contract at United was ended by mutual consent after a controversial interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticised many aspects of the club and then boss Erik ten Hag, and Ronaldo now plays in Saudi Arabia for Al Nassr.

Now, Scholes has revealed his top five United players of all time and he chose five whom he shared a dressing room with.

But there was no place for Ronaldo in that quintet as the Portuguese was snubbed for five other Old Trafford legends.

In reverse order, Scholes selected Eric Cantona, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs as his top five, with the Welshman being crowned number one in his view.

Speaking to TNT Sports as he explained his selections, Scholes said: "Eric Cantona had a massive impact on the club. I only played for him for a year, maybe two, but a sensational player and probably the missing link to this team which took them over the line to win the league.

"Bryan Robson was a hero of mine growing up. I was lucky enough to play with him towards the end of his career but an all action midfield player who could do absolutely everything that a Manchester United midfield player should be able to do.

"Roy Keane did everything for this club, captained this club, was the manager on the football pitch for me.

"He did absolutely everything, he helped with the defence, helped with the attack, contributed in every single way that a Manchester United midfield player should do.

"Wayne Rooney was a scintillating, amazing footballer. He had raw power as a young player, his technique was sensational, had a brilliant goalscoring record and I was lucky enough to play with him for quite some time.

"Number one I'll go for Ryan Giggs. What he did from 17 up until he was 40 years of age for this club was outstanding.

"As a young winger going past people and getting this crowd off their feet, getting them excited, changing games for us, and then as an older player going into central midfield and being equally an influential."
