Manchester United have identified a new transfer target as they continue to scour the market for a new central midfielder.
The Reds are likely to make a number of signings this summer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team attempt to improve matters on the pitch following a disappointing campaign.
They have prioritised strengthening four positions this summer – a full-back, centre-back, central-midfielder and a striker, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Casemiro looks to be on his way out as a number of Saudi Pro League clubs swirl, while Christian Eriksen could also depart, leaving room for another midfield addition.
United sent scouts to watch Benfica midfielder Joao Neves on numerous occasions last season.
In fact, a recent report from Portuguese outlet Record suggests the club made an opening offer of €60 million [£51m] for the Portugal international, although that bid was immediately turned down by Benfica director Rui Costa.
Now, it has emerged that United are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Ugarte, who made 42 appearances in all competitions for club and country last season, is said to be 'one of a number of players they are looking at', according to Sky Sports.
The Uruguay international was one of Europe's most sought-after players last summer after impressing for Sporting CP.
A number of clubs expressed an interest in signing Ugarte, including Chelsea, but PSG are said to have offered a bigger financial package and swooped to sign the midfielder for around £51.8 million.
“I’m really happy to take this big step in my career at such a great club,” Ugarte said. “I’m going to give my all for Paris Saint-Germain.”

The anticipation around his arrival at the Parc des Princes was high but the 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact in Luis Enrique's side.
PSG are said to be open to negotiations, according to L'Equipe, who also suggest United have had a bid rejected for the Uruguayan.
Sky Sports go on to state that United 'remain in talks' over a deal to sign Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee, with United prepared to pay his release clause, which is around £34 million.

Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite also remains of interest, although United are yet to follow up on their initial offer that was rejected.
United submitted a £35 million bid for the defender, according to The Athletic – an offer that was deemed to be 'unacceptable' by Everton.
Everton are expected to 'demand a premium' for Branthwaite amid concerns over their compliance with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).
Everton believe Branthwaite is in 'the same bracket' as the likes of Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol - all of whom were sold in recent summers for fees over £75 million.
