Manchester United are prepared to use Mason Greenwood in a player-plus-cash deal for one of their primary defensive targets, it has been claimed.
Greenwood's future at United has been uncertain after police charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault against him were dropped in February last year. The 22-year-old had long vehemently denied the accusations.
United initially decided Greenwood’s future resided away from Old Trafford, with the forward leaving on loan to Getafe in last summer’s transfer deadline day.

However, in February United minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, said no decision had been made on Greenwood's future upon the end of his loan spell.
He said: "It's quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that's been made. He's on loan, obviously, but he's not the only one.
“We've got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.
"The process will be: understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of values. Is he a good guy or not?

“Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well? Would we be comfortable with it, and would the fans be comfortable with it?"
However, it has been suggested that United may look to sell Greenwood in the summer, with a fresh Gazzetta dello Sport report claiming the club may be willing to include the forward in a potential deal for Juventus star Gleison Bremer.
Bremer has been among Serie A’s stand-out players this term, and would allegedly cost United in the region of £51million to £60million. However, the Old Trafford club could drive that price down should Greenwood be included in the transfer.

Juventus are said to be interested in Greenwood, who has netted six goals and registered five assists in his 24 league appearances this term.
United are also thought to be keen on Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo at centre-back.
