Manchester United beat Ligue 1 side Lyon 1-0 in a pre-season friendly in Edinburgh.
For the second stop of United’s pre-season tour, the club took on Laurent Blanc’s Lyon, winning courtesy of a come-back goal from Donny van de Beek.
Mason Mount was given his second taste of first-team action for United following his £60million move from Chelsea. Yet, Andre Onana, United’s soon-to-be No 1 goalkeeper, was not involved with his move from Inter not yet finalised.

But there are plenty of young prospects on show as well as a few returning stars at Murrayfield. Here’s how they got on.
Man Utd player ratings
Matej Kovar - 5
Matej Kovar replaced Tom Heaton in the United side and while he had little to do in terms of shot-stopping, he looked composed on the ball. The youngster did have one sticky moment however, putting Raphael Varane under pressure with a loose pass.
Advert
Kovar was the only player to be given the entire 90 minutes.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 5
While he is normally lauded for his defensive capabilities, Aaron Wan-Bissaka had a lot of the ball against Lyon and looked steady, if unspectacular.
Raphael Varane - 6
Advert
As solid as ever and did well to clear a dangerous free-kick late in the half.
Lisandro Martinez - 8
Was at his usual level. The centre-back put in a good challenge to stop a Lyon counter in the early stages while he went on a marauding run to set up a United chance later on. His passing was also good, naturally.
Alvaro Fernandez - 5
Advert
Lost the ball in midfield which led to a golden opportunity for Lyon and could have given away a penalty late in the half. Did well against Jeffinho for most of the encounter.
Hannibal Mejbri - 6
Lots of energy as always, but his influence on the game faded as the first half wore on. He was also lucky to escape a card with a rash challenge late in the first 45 minutes.
Kobbie Mainoo - 7
Advert
Kobbie Mainoo looks like a real player. He was composed on the ball and looked reliable out of possession too. The youngster made a brilliant block to stop a decent Lyon chance, while he also displayed a good range of passing.
Mason Mount - 5
Mount grew into the game as the half wore on but was unconvincing with both half-chances that were presented to him. The England international had an opportunity from a free-kick which was drilled straight into the Lyon wall, while moments later he skied a shot from the edge of the box.
Antony - 6
The Brazilian missed a chance from close range three minutes into proceedings, and like all the United front line, his influence faded as the first half went on.
Amad Diallo - 6
Amad Diallo had a great chance early on, but one-on-one with the keeper he dragged his shot wide of the far post. Moments later he had another shot that was parried away by the keeper.
But he peaked too early, having been barely involved for the rest of the game.
Jadon Sancho - 6
Was heavily involved and showed some nice touches throughout. He did particularly well to set up Antony for a guilt-edged opportunity in the opening stages.
However, Jadon Sancho was at times wasteful in key attacking situations.
Substitutes:
Jonny Evans - 6
Had to do very little on his return to the United line-up. On one occasion he was able to show his experience with a solid, no-nonsense challenge to halt a counterattack.
Will Fish - 5
A very quiet half for a player that may be returning to Edinburgh to join Hibernian on loan this summer.
Marc Jurado - 5
Had a steady second half, starting energetically down the flank. However, he faded.
Brandon Williams - 5
At 22, Brandon Williams was one of the senior heads in a youthful United line-up. Had next to nothing to do.
Fred - 6
His general play was good and he even provided Isak Hansen-Aaroen with a great opportunity from a good ‘nutmegged’ pass.
Fred was also on most of the set pieces, few of which caused much of a problem for Lyon.
Daniel Gore - 8
Daniel Gore did brilliantly to generate a cross on the stretch for Van de Beek’s goal. And he generally looked good - all action, all energy and good in possession. Ten Hag will have liked what he saw.
Isak Hansen-Aaroen - 6
Had a good chance on the counter, but his low shot was tipped away from the far corner. Just as he proved against Leeds, Hansen-Aaroen looks like a very technically proficient player.
Omari Forson - 6
Looked tricky on the ball and on one occasion thundered into a heavy challenge to dispossess a Lyon player. However, he faded as the half went on.
Donny van de Beek - 7
Just four minutes into the second half, Van de Beek rifled a brilliant volley into the top corner - his first involvement after a long injury layoff.
Generally showed good energy, though he was perhaps not quite as fined-tuned as he would have been with more game time.
Joe Hugill - 6
Started the half by galloping his way up the pitch on a one-man solo mission, and did a good job generally running the channels and pressing the defenders. Looks like a nightmare to play against.
