Manchester United made an attempt to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani this summer, according to reports, but the big-money bid was rejected.
After months of speculation, the Premier League outfit finally snapped up Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in a deal worth an initial £64 million plus £8 million in add-ons.
During those talks to sign Hojlund, however, France international Muani was regarded as an "alternative and attainable option" to Hojlund, reported the Manchester Evening News.

In fact, it has now emerged that Erik ten Hag's side made an offer worth €70 million [£59m] + add-ons to sign the highly-rated Bundesliga forward, according to L'Equipe reporter Loïc Tanzi.
The news comes as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain try and snap up Muani ahead of the summer window slamming shut.
After making a similar offer of €70 million [£59m] for Muani, the French side will increase their offer on Monday morning, say L'Equipe.

According to several reports in France, Muani has already agreed to join PSG this summer but a fee with the Bundesliga club is yet to be agreed.
RMC reporter Sacha Tavolieri claimed last week that the French forward rejected a move to Spurs, who "lost too much time by transforming their interest into an offer".
Back in January, Muani said he was keen to remain in the Bundesliga, but said a move to England could come later on in his career.
“If possible, I’d like to stay and play in the Bundesliga. I don’t know what will happen in the next few days," he told Sky Sports Germany.

“I’m benefiting here with my speed. There’s a lot of space for me. There’s a lot of pressing, a lot of counterattacking, and that suits my style of play very much. The Bundesliga is the perfect league for me."
He added: “The Premier League is a great league with great teams. It’s a league that every player dreams of. But that’s not my goal yet.
"With Eintracht, we have a lot of goals for the second half of the season. And I want to score a lot of goals. At the moment, I only think about that.

“I would like the Premier League in the future. But that’s still a long way off, and a dream.”
