Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been 'tipped' to make a shock return to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.
It has been another poor season for the Red Devils as they currently sit 12th in the Premier League and 21st in the UEFA Europa League.
In recent months, United were comfortably beaten by the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur and also struggled against teams like FC Twente and FC Porto.
On Friday afternoon, during a debate on talkSPORT, former Chelsea and Aston Villa player Andy Townsend claimed he would rather have Mourinho in charge at Old Trafford than Ten Hag if he was a United fan.

He said: “I would rather Mourinho was managing Man United right now than Erik ten Hag if I was a United fan.”
Co-presenter and United supporter Andy Goldstein replied: “I just think he brings a massive cloud with him wherever he goes. It’s great when it’s not your club.”
Townsend then added: “I think United are such a giant club, I just don’t get it. I said to you in the summer that I thought Ten Hag would be gone. I thought he would be and it never quite happened. Look, good luck to him because I’m not saying I don’t admire the way he’s stuck at it and keeps going.
“Yes, he’s won a couple of trophies, big performances in the cup last year but I just don’t get him at Man United and ever being big enough to really get them going again and get after Pep and co.”

The ex-Republic of Ireland international continued: “I read a comment today saying maybe he was the one to follow Sir Alex Ferguson, maybe because he had the profile and the trophy wins. Perhaps maybe he should’ve been the one to follow Sir Alex.
“It’s never a surprise to me when he(Mourinho) goes somewhere and something happens.”
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against West Ham United, Ten Hag said: “We all have to work together on this point - the players, the coaching staff and all the other staff.

“We have to do better at that because we know when we have them we are a really tough team to play and we can be really successful.”
