Manchester United have emerged as the shock front runners to sign Lille star Jonathan David on a free transfer this summer with the forward out of contract at the French club.
Ruben Amorim's side have had a bright start to 2025 after struggling for form during his first month in charge with United sitting 14th in the Premier League table.
United added to their impressive 2-2 draw at Anfield with an equally impressive penalty shootout victory against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

Despite Amorim's system requiring specific player profiles, it is expected United are going to have a quiet January due to the challenges faced due to PSR.
Speaking on The Athletic’s podcast, transfer expert David Ornstein explained the situation at Old Trafford.
He said: “It’s not like the walls are collapsing on their financial situation – it’s not great, clearly, they’ve got work to do. But I do think there is a bit of scope to do something [in the January window]."

While spending big is highly unlikely, United might not even need to as according to TuttoSport, the club are exploring a free transfer with Canadian international, David.
David is down to the last six months of his contract with French side Lille and is believed to have his sights set on a new challenge away from the Ligue 1 club.
David has 11 goals in 17 league appearances so far this season and has also netted four times in five Champions League starts.

The report also states that Juventus are also interested in the 25-year-old, but United's current position gives them a 'golden opportunity' to beat the Seria A club to his signature.
If Amorim is able to bring David to Old Trafford for free, it will likely bring an extra side smile to United fan's faces due to Liverpool's previous interest in the Canadian.
Back in October, it was reported that Liverpool were prepared to offer Lille €25 million for David this month, with Arne Slot being a 'huge fan' of the forward.
