Erik ten Hag called out the media in a furious rant following the noise around his job during his pre-match press conference.

Manchester United resume their faltering Premier League campaign on Saturday when they host Brentford.

The Red Devils enter the Old Trafford clash off the back of a goalless draw at Aston Villa.

Ten Hag has failed to lead his side to a league win since September 14.

That has led to intense scrutiny over his position at Man United, with a shock name emerging as a potential replacement.

Ahead of taking charge of his team against Thomas Frank's Brentford, Ten Hag came out firing in his pre-match press conference.

He hit out at the 'lies' and 'fairytales' regarding recent media reports.

Asked if he had received assurances, he replied: "No," before adding: "The noise is only coming from the media, from you guys. From some of you, not all of you, but some of you. Bringing up stories, creating stories, creating fairy tales, making noise, bringing lies.

"Because I know we are all on one page in this club. I told this before the break, I told several journalists, they didn't believe me. I see the reports, but internal in the club it's quiet."

The 54-year-old continued: "Of course, we are discussing the position where we are, that we are unhappy in the position where we are and we have to turn the corner, what has to happen with a strategy to turn this corner.

"But ultimately we are quiet, we are composed, we stay where we are, we stick to the plan and we are very convinced we will make it a success."

Man United have fired blank in their last three league games, with the Dutchman calling for his team to improve in attack.

"I think the players do well, we won last season, maybe you forgot. When we face problems, sometimes we have to line up teams who are not in the right balance because players aren't available, but I think in general, the players do perform well," he said.

"We have to start scoring now, which is the most important part of football. We have to improve that part."

Man United currently occupy 14th place in the league table, having recorded just eight points from their opening seven games.

They've already suffered three defeats, which includes crushing 3-0 homes defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham.

What's more, Man United haven't won a game since their 7-0 victory over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup last month.

In that period, Ten Hag's side have lost to Spurs and drawn with Crystal Palace and Villa.
