Andre Onana names the four Man Utd players who should take criticism after disastrous Premier League campaign

It has been a season to forget for Manchester United.

Andre Onana has named four players who should take the criticism for Manchester United's disastrous Premier League season.

Though Man United ended the season with a 2-0 win at Brighton on Sunday, there is no escaping the fact that it has been a thoroughly disappointing campaign for Erik ten Hag's side.

Victory was not enough to lift United above eighth place in the table, their lowest ever finish in the Premier League.

United's hopes of playing European football next season rest on them beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

United make huge progress under Ten Hag last season, but this season they have regressed.

The Dutch coach has been heavily criticised by fans, former players and pundits this term, as have many of his players. One of them is goalkeeper Andre Onana, who has had a mixed season since his £47.2 million move from Inter Milan last summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, Onana admitted that he doesn't pay attention to criticism levelled at him and his teammates by former players, but said he worries about the affect it has on younger players.

For that reason, the 28-year-old would prefer criticism to be aimed at himself and other senior squad members.

"For me, I don’t pay attention to it. I have come into this team to take bullets, because we are under construction – at the moment, we are not the best," Onana said.

"We have other teams who are doing better than us and we have to be honest and recognize that. If things and when things are going wrong, don’t go for the youngest player – I'm here to take it, Bruno [Fernandes], Casemiro and Harry [Maguire] are there and we are used to it.

"When it’s people who were sitting where I’m sitting, who won everything, sometimes it’s bizarre – we are in the same boat.

"We try to follow your thing and what you did. For me, I don’t mind, but other people may be affected. For me, to be honest, it’s just a part of the game."
