Pep Guardiola might just be understanding of Jack Grealish's omission from England's Euro 2024 squad if recent comments are anything to go by.
On Thursday afternoon Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the showpiece in Germany was announced.
The England boss had to cut seven players to meet UEFA squad rules, with the likes of Jarell Quansah, Curtis Jones, James Trafford, Jarrad Branthwaite, James Maddison and Harry Maguire getting axed.
But the most surprise exclusion was City winger Grealish, who may deemed to be a shoo-in.

Grealish is said to have been "caught off-guard" by the decision, while many players from hosts Germany are believed to be "stunned" seeing the former Aston Villa captain left out.
However, having been an integral player for City in their treble-winning campaign he made just 10 starts in the Premier League last season after struggling with injuries and form.
Guardiola and Grealish reportedly met on a number of occasions last season to discuss his performances.

And after the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United, the City boss was happy to admit in public that Grealish wasn't at his best.
Asked about Grealish, he said: "He’s struggled this season."
Guardiola also pointed out that Jeremy Doku had been performing well but stressed that Grealish would be "back at the level".
Although he had featured in 10 of England's last 12 games at major tournaments, ultimately Grealish's lack of form led to Anthony Gordon and Eberechi Eze getting the nod.

Explaining Maddison and Grealish's absences, Southgate said: "They're calls we've gone over and over and over as a group of staff to try to be fair and to try to use the right rationale.
"We back our decisions but we recognise we could have gone a different route. The boys are big characters, fabulous team-mates and great boys to work with. "It's sad to have to deliver that news to them."
