Eric Cantona reveals what he 'knows' about Ruben Amorim's relationship with Man Utd players and it speaks volumes

Cantona tells fans why Amorim is 'unhappy' as Manchester United prepare for Europa League clash with Lyon

Eric Cantona loves to weigh in on matters of great import at Manchester United and who could blame him?

Man Utd haven't had many more talented or more culturally compatible players than Cantona in their entire history, so when it comes to the big questions about what happens at Old Trafford, his is a voice that counts for more than most.

Cantona took aim at United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe last week, laying the blame for the Red Devils' destruction at his Ineos office door.

Speaking at an event at FC United of Manchester after buying into the rebel club, Cantona said that "Since [Jim] Ratcliffe arrived this team of directors try to destroy everything and they don't respect anybody."

The Frenchman's opinion about performances on the pitch is highly regarded by Man Utd fans too, and he shared his typically forthright views on that in a recent conflab with the Man Utd The Religion YouTube channel.

"I think we have to wait," answered the four-time Premier League winner when asked about manager Ruben Amorim by Pete Boyle.

"He did great things in Lisbon and just came [to Man Utd] in the middle of the season so he didn't choose the players, and I know he's unhappy about the players.

"So we have to wait... It will be more fair, I think, to judge him maybe next season, because he has to do with the players that he didn't choose."

Even as one of their greatest players of all time urges caution, Man Utd fans have increasing cause to be frustrated about the team's performances this season.

Amorim's sacked predecessor, Erik ten Hag, left with the team in 14th place in the Premier League. The Portuguese has them in 14th too, with six league matches remaining.

Man Utd go into Thursday's Europa League quarter-final second leg with every chance of progressing and winning a European trophy would undoubtedly represent success this season.

Goals from Lenny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee offset the goalkeeping errors that saw goalkeeper Andre Onana benched for Sunday's Premier League loss against Newcastle United to take a 2-2 scoreline into the second leg at Old Trafford.

United's last chance to salvage the season is right around the corner but Cantona is looking further into the future before holding the new head coach fully accountable for results.
