Liverpool star linked with exit says he now 'wants to stay for long time' after Carabao Cup win vs Chelsea

The Liverpool defender has eased fans nerves after committing his future to the club following their Carabao Cup victory against Chelsea.

Liverpool have been handed a huge boost as key star commits future to the club following their historic Carabao Cup victory against Chelsea.

Liverpool came into the match with notable absences, including key players like Alisson Becker, Mo Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all sidelined due to injuries.

The injury woes escalated for Jurgen Klopp during the first half when Ryan Gravenberch was stretchered off following a brutal challenge from Moises Caicedo.

Despite their injury woes, Klopp benefited hugely from the availability of both Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate who added a huge amount of stability to an otherwise inexperienced side.

It was the Dutchmen who made the headlines with the 118th-minute winner, but Konate's impressive performance hasn't gone unnoticed.

Liverpool signed the centre-back from RB Leipzig in 2021 and he’s made 82 appearances in all competitions so far for the club.

The French international recently threw his Liverpool future into doubt when he admitted he had dreamt of playing for PSG, but his comments after the cup final will calm a lot of fans' nerves.

“It’s clear that I want to stay for a long time, it’s clear that I want to achieve things. The most important thing to stay here is to set the bar high,” Konate said, speaking to Téléfoot.

“We have to live with it, but in a positive way. It’s his last season with us, we’re giving him the best possible exit for everything he’s been able to do for this legendary club,” Konaté explained.

The Liverpool defender also commented on the moment Klopp told the players he would be leaving the club and thanked the German for what he has done for his career.

“He told us in the dressing room, just like that, one morning at a meeting. I was quite surprised. I didn’t expect it in the context we were in," Konate stated.

“Throwing me into the deep end. Liverpool, the Premier League, the Champions League, that’s something else. Everything he gave me enabled me to join the France team,”
