Liverpool fans concerned after seeing what Virgil van Dijk did in tunnel after Champions League defeat to PSG

Van Dijk was spotted by a French journalist after the defeat to PSG.

Liverpool fans have been left concerned after what Virgil van Dijk was spotted doing after his side's Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG progressed to the quarter-finals at Anfield after winning a penalty shootout, with the two teams locked at 1-1 on aggregate over the two legs and the extra time that followed.

Van Dijk did not take a penalty but watched on as Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo saw their spot kicks saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Dutchman's contract at Liverpool expires in June, meaning he could have played his final Champions League match for the club.

The Reds captain has yet to agree terms on a fresh contract, while regularly batting away questions asked of him by reporters over his future.

And what he was spotted doing after full-time has worried Liverpool fans.

Van Dijk was seen in conversation with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the PSG president, in the tunnel after Liverpool's defeat at Anfield.

Luis Campos, PSG's sporting director, was also involved in the discussions.

It is unclear what the topic of conversation was given the talks took place in a public area, but fans are convinced it was over a potential move to the French capital in the summer.

PSG have pursued a largely youth-focused transfer policy in recent years, with a major focus on recruiting French talent to replace the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi.

France internationals Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue all starred at the Parc des Princes, while 19-year-old Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves and 23-year-old centre-back Willian Pacho also key additions.

Van Dijk could add more experience to the PSG line-up and, at 33 years of age, should still have a number of seasons left at the top level.

Liverpool will soon have some major decisions to make over the future of the Dutchman, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who are all out of contract this summer.
