Jamie Carragher has expressed confusion over events which led to a rare double advantage for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 penalty shoot-out win over Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, PSG won the second meeting 1-0 thanks to a solitary strike from Ousmane Dembele - which sent the game all the way to penalties.
PSG converted all of their spot-kicks and Gianluigi Donnarumma made two crucial saves to deny Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones before Desire Doue dispatched the winner to secure passage to the quarter-finals for Luis Enrique's men.
Carragher watched the game from inside Anfield but was still on duty for CBS Sports and after the game, mentioned that he noticed PSG had two advantages for the shoot-out.
The penalties were not taken at the Kop end and instead at the end where PSG had their section of fans, but they also took the first kick through Vitinha.
Carragher spots PSG's double advantage
Carragher discussed the outcome of the coin toss between Virgil van Dijk and Achraf Hakimi, saying: "One thing I couldn’t work out with the penalties was, obviously there was a coin toss with Virgil van Dijk [and PSG’s captain].
"PSG must’ve won it to take it to the other end [away from the Kop] but then also took the first penalty. So I wasn’t quite sure what happened there.
"Normally you only get one advantage and the other team gets the first penalty… but PSG deserved to go through.
"I am really a bit deflated, but listen, the best team won. PSG, we've seen how it performed in the first leg, I called it a robbery to make it 1-0."
As per the Olympics website, official FIFA rules state that the two coin tosses take place to decide both the goal and the order of the penalties - with the winning captain having the power.

PSG had already won the first coin toss and strategically chose to swap ends at the start of the game, meaning Liverpool attacked the Kop in the first half and the Anfield Road in the second.
They will play Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarter-finals, with Unai Emery's side leading 3-1 from the first leg.
