Andy Robertson ruled out until 2024 as Liverpool identify three replacements ahead of January

Liverpool are set to be without Andy Robertson for a while

Liverpool have reportedly identified three replacements for Andy Robertson on the back of his shoulder injury.

During the international break, Robertson was forced off with a suspected dislocated shoulder after being landed on by Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against local rivals Everton this weekend, manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed Robertson will be out for a while.

According to The Athletic, Robertson could be out until 2024 but the club have already lined up three replacement for the Scotland captain.

Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas is expected to deputise for Robertson, starting with this weekend’s Merseyside derby.

Youngsters Luke Chambers and Calum Scanlon could also be promoted to the first team as Klopp looks to explore his options.

Apart from the three mentioned above, Joe Gomez could also be used as he has often filled in at right-back when Trent Alexander Arnold was unavailable.

Furthermore, Gomez made his first few Liverpool appearances at left-back under former boss Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking about Robertson, Klopp said: “Talking to pretty much all the experts it looks like surgery will be the best thing, especially in the long term, and that means he is out for a while.

“In my experience, you can train pretty quickly again but not football-specific so because you have to be careful of challenges and all these kind of things.

“Thank god it is not only Kostas we have for that [left-back] because for the amount of games we would already be a bit short.”

He added: “We have Joe Gomez who can play the position and we have Luke Chambers and other young boys who show up in training quite frequently.

“You see the young boys showing up, that’s good. There is a lot of talent in there, you need options there, that is clear.

“Kostas is definitely the most experienced in the position, so that’s good, but he cannot play all the games from now on, so we need other options and that’s what we have to make sure, that we can use all of them.”
