Former Liverpool defender Joel Matip could be set to make an unexpected return to the Premier League as one club is reportedly interested in the centre back.
After eight years at the club, Matip left Liverpool at the end of last season following the expiration of his contract.
The Cameroonian was a key player under former manager Jurgen Klopp, who regularly spoke about his love for Matip due to both his footballing ability and his personality.

And now, four months after leaving the Reds, Matip could be set to return to the Premier League as one club considers signing the 33-year-old to strengthen their defence.
According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Matip is one of two centre backs under consideration at West Ham United, who will explore the free agent market to find a new defender.
The Hammers are also considering former Sheffield United defender John Egan as they look to replace Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd who each left the club last week.

Since joining three years ago, Zouma has been a regular starter for West Ham, making 103 appearances, but has left to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Oroubah on loan for the 2024//25 season.
Meanwhile Aguerd, who made 28 appearances for the London club last season, left on loan for La Liga side Real Sociedad.
With two important defenders departing the club, bringing in a veteran Premier League defender to play alongside new defensive signings Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo would make a lot of sense.
Matip made over 200 appearances during his time at Liverpool, playing in a squad that won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and two Carabao Cups.

Speaking at the end of last season before both he and Matip left Liverpool, Klopp had high praise for the defender.
“In all the years that I have been involved in football, I am not sure I have come across too many players who are more loved than Joel Matip. I’m not even sure it would be possible to say anything bad about him," said Klopp.
In another press conference, he added: "Have you ever seen a better free transfer than Joel Matip? He’s ridiculously funny and a great man. Whoever gets him is a lucky club. World class and super humble."
