Sky Sports reporter drops major update on Mo Salah’s Liverpool future after ‘last year’ comment

Sky Sports reporter drops major update on Mo Salah’s Liverpool future after ‘last year’ comment

It caused a stir online.

There has been a major update on Mo Salah's contract situation at Liverpool, following his comments following the club's away win at Old Trafford.

Salah was on the scoresheet as he always is against Man United on Sunday, as he whipped the ball past Andre Onana in the second half to put the seal on a 3-0 win.

The Egyptian was absolutely phenomenal grabbing assists for both of Liverpool's first two goals, scored by Luis Diaz.

The victory means Arne Slot's side head into the first international break of the season with three wins out of three and an impressive zero goals conceded in the Premier League.

Following the game, Salah joined the Sky Sports panel to discuss the performance, and what the forward had to say caused quite a stir.

Speaking on his performance, Salah said: "You know this is my last year in the club. I just want to enjoy it."

Salah's current deal at the club runs out at the end of the season after signing an extension in 2022, following his rather damning statement the Sky Sports team pressed Salah on his situation.

"It’s not up to me but no one has spoken to me at the club," he responded.

With Liverpool fans now fearing the worst, Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has dropped an update on the situation.

Speaking on X, she wrote: "My understanding is Mo Salah’s preference is to remain at Liverpool but it is not his job to push for that. His performances speak for itself.

"Salah believes he still has a few years at the highest level, competing for top prizes while breaking records. It is significant that no one at Liverpool has approached him yet to discuss a new contract," she added.

With Salah able to sign pre-contract deals with clubs outside of England in January, the delay on the 32-year-old's contract negotiations seems rather odd if a renewal is the ideal end goal.

"Why would the club wait so long to start the process if they want to keep Salah?" Reddy added.

Salah has been Liverpool's star man ever since he joined the club from Roma back in 2017, and despite fears he may be over the hill in terms of ability, he has been involved in six of Liverpool's seven goals this season.
