Arne Slot breaks silence on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia transfer links amid claims Liverpool plotting January bid

Arne Slot breaks silence on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia transfer links amid claims Liverpool plotting January bid

The Liverpool manager has spoken out about the rumours.

Arne Slot has spoken out to address rumours that Liverpool are considering making a move for Khvica Kvaratskhelia in the January transfer window.

On Thursday evening reports started to emerge that Liverpool were monitoring the ongoing situation between Kvaratskhelia and current club Napoli, with the winger said to be looking to leave the club this month.

Paris Saint-Germain are said to be the favourites to sign the Georgian as they are in direct contact with Napoli, but Liverpool could make an attempt to hijack the deal if they believe it is possible.

And now, Liverpool manager Slot has spoken out to address the rumours and give his opinion on if the club are likely to sign the exciting forward.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's clash with League Two side Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup Third Round on Saturday, Slot was asked if the rumours regarding Liverpool's interest in the Napoli winger were true.

"99/100 times at the end of the window it's been clear that almost all of these stories weren't true. But no comments from my side," he replied.

News about the shock transfer was first revealed by The Athletic's David Ornstein who confirmed that Liverpool, alongside PSG and Chelsea, were all considering making moves for Kvaratskhelia should it become clear he was set to leave Napoli in the January window.

He wrote on social media: "Liverpool could consider move to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia if leaves Napoli in Jan.

"LFC not actively seeking winger but admire 23yo, alert to situation + may contend if becomes market opportunity. PSG and CFC also among interested clubs."

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported earlier in the day that Kvaratskhelia is open to leaving Napoli this month and that the current deal being discussed between the Italian side and PSG involves a transfer fee of around €80million (£66.97m).

As it stands, the 23-year-old is under contract with the Serie A club until June 2027, meaning Napoli will likely not be in any rush to sell him and can take their time negotiating the best deal.

In total, the winger has scored 30 goals and added 29 assists in 107 appearances since joining Napoli in 2022 from Georgian club Dinamo Batumi.

So far in the 24/25 season, Kvaratskhelia has managed five goals and three assists in 19 matches across all competitions.
