A Manchester United legend has claimed that he was interviewed to become Liverpool’s new manager.
Back in 2010, Liverpool endured a tough time under the guidance of Roy Hodgson.
After leading Fulham to the Europa League final, Hodgson was chosen to replace Rafa Benitez.

However, Hodgson’s time at Anfield was unsuccessful and he was sacked by the club.
In January 2011, Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish was named as Hodgson’s replacement.
However, United legend Mark Hughes has revealed that he was interviewed.

Speaking on Sam Allardyce’s No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Hughes said, as per The Mirror: “I once had an interview for the Liverpool job. I don’t think that’s well-documented, but I didn’t get it so that doesn’t really count does it.
“I think Kenny [Dalglish] decided he was going to be a manager again. Perhaps the choice of candidates wasn’t great and that’s why I didn’t get any closer.”
He added: “I had a sit down with people at Liverpool, there you go. I think that would’ve been more of a shock than me getting the Man City job.”

After taking the job on an interim basis, Dalglish led Liverpool to League Cup victory in 2012 and were beaten by Chelsea in the FA Cup final in the same year.
Dalglish was eventually sacked by the club in 2013 after 74 matches in charge.
Speaking about his dismissal, Dalglish said: “I have said it was an honour to be asked to come back. It was unfortunate in the circumstances because Roy had lost his job but I don't see any reason to change my opinion now.”
Since Dalglish left, Brendan Rodgers was put in charge and came close to winning the Premier League.

Northern Irishman Rodgers was then replaced by Jurgen Klopp, who landed himself in Anfield folklore by winning the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Community Shield and Liverpool’s first ever Premier League title.
