Jamie Carragher is a mainstay on the CBS Sports broadcast team but he had to pass a very specific test to earn his place.
The former Liverpool defender is a regular pundit for the American broadcaster’s Champions League coverage.
Alongside Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, ex-Manchester City defender Micah Richards and fan favourite anchor Kate Abdo, Carragher regularly leaves viewers in stitches with multiple moments from their shows going viral on social media.

Most recently, Carragher travelled to Dortmund to take his place in the famous Yellow Wall and enjoyed plenty of beers with supporters leading to a sensational end to CBS’ live broadcast.
However, the Liverpool-born pundit has revealed he had to pass a very specific test in order to get hired by the American company.
Carragher revealed to The Guardian that CBS Sports’ senior creative director Peter Radovich was concerned about their American audience understanding Carragher’s Scouse accent.

“He was worried whether or not the audience would understand me,” Carragher said.
Radovich had a plan to test whether his accent would be an issue or not and decided to play a video of Carragher to the wives of three CBS executives.
“Would you believe these three executives played a video of me to all their wives and it was basically down to them to decide if they could understand me,” Carragher added.
“Two of them did, one was not sure. So I just got the votes.”

CBS Sports’ show is known for a more light-hearted approach to their broadcast compared to the likes of Carragher’s Monday Night Football show on Sky Sports but the ex-defender made headlines for the wrong reasons in March when a joke aimed at Abdo went terribly wrong.
Carragher praised his colleague for the way she dealt with the situation that has now been fully resolved.
He said: “We went viral again for the wrong reasons.

“That’s one of the things with the show. Everything is flying around, everyone is saying one liners. You get so carried away.
“Then as soon as you say something you go, ‘Oh no.’ You just want to take it back. I made my apologies. But the way Kate dealt with it in the next show was amazing.”
