He endured a dismal three-month spell as manager of Valencia but Gary Neville may have cracked a wry smile after his record in Spain was compared to Erik ten Hag's this season.
It has been an extremely disappointing campaign thus far for United, who suffered their 13th defeat of the season on Saturday after losing 2-0 to West Ham.
United are currently on a streak of four games without a goal – the longest they’ve gone without scoring in 31 years – and sit 12 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

After the full-time whistle this weekend, a number of damning stats emerged around their lacklustre form, including a post involving Neville and his tenure at La Liga outfit Valencia.
As pointed out by one X user, the former Manchester United full-back took charge of 28 matches at the Mestalla, winning 10, drawing seven and losing 11.
Valencia also scored 39 goals and conceded 38 in that spell – a record that eventually got Neville the sack as the Spanish side sat 14th, just six points clear of La Liga's relegation zone.

Erik ten Hag's spell in charge at Old Trafford this season, however, makes for even bleaker reading.
So far, he has taken charge of 26 games this season, picking up 13 losses, including Saturday's defeat to West Ham, along the way.
United's lack of fire power in forward areas is also laid bare. They not only rank bottom in the Premier League for chance conversion rate, but only Sheffield United have scored fewer league goals this season.
After the below post went viral, Liverpool legend and fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher commented: "Give it Gary till the end of the season….."
After the full-time whistle this weekend, Erik ten Hag backed his team to rediscover their form in the coming weeks.

“They are capable [of turning things around],” he said. "I know [Marcus] Rashford can score a goal, [Rasmus] Hojlund can score a goal, Antony can score a goal, [Alejandro] Garnacho can score a goal, Bruno [Fernandes] can score a goal, Scott McTominay can score a goal.
“We have the scoring abilities in our squad, and also from set plays, but in this moment we are not doing that. They have to stick together and also believe in themselves that they can do it.”
