Everton savagely mock Anthony Gordon after his penalty miss for Newcastle United

Everton held Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.

Everton brutally made fun of former player Anthony Gordon after his penalty against the Toffees.

On Saturday evening, Gordon, who now plays for Newcastle United, lined up against Everton at Goodison Park for a Premier League clash.

Everton had a goal ruled out by VAR in the 18th minute before Gordon was handed a chance to put his side in front from 12 yards with 35 minutes on the clock.

The Newcastle winger stepped up but saw his kick saved by fellow countryman Jordan Pickford.

Goodison Park erupted with noise as Gordon was left disappointed, his miss proved costly as Everton managed to hold the Magpies to a 0-0 draw.

After the match, a fan wrote on social media saying they wished Everton had blasted the same buzzer they use with fans at half-time when Gordon’s penalty was saved.

Everton replied by posting a video with the comical buzzer noise added onto the moment Gordon missed his spot kick. You can watch the footage below.

Reacting to his miss, Gordon wrote on social media: “A great performance, just couldn’t put them away, and that’s on me,’ he wrote. Never easy missing but you’ll never ever see me shy away from stepping up for my team.

“Thanks to everyone that travelled – till next time.”

Meanwhile, Magpies boss Eddie Howe said after the match: “You are always going to miss your strikers if they are not fit. If you take any focal-point number nine out of team you are going to miss them.

“The two we have been missing are top players. They are both different but I think you could see elements of our game missing that spark was missing and in part that is down to them.”

He added: “Anthony has done incredibly well, the group have done incredibly well to play without them, but we will be delighted to get them back if we can but there's no guarantee with that."

“The next two weeks hopefully we can see both of them in training and hopefully they will be fit for Brighton.”
