Liverpool fans have a theory as to why Anthony Gordon rejected joining the Merseysiders to stay at Newcastle.
Gordon was linked to a Liverpool move this summer and as per a fresh Telegraph report, even let England team-mates know that the transfer was close to a conclusion during this summer’s European Championships.
Gordon is said to have come close to joining the Reds, as the Magpies scrambled to meet PSR regulations. However, the 23-year-old Everton academy graduate ultimately stayed in the North East, with Yankuba Minteh leaving Newcastle for Brighton for £33 million instead.

Godron, who has entered the final two years of his contract on Tyneside, is now widely reported to be on the cusp of putting pen to paper on a lucrative six-year deal.
“We love Anthony,” said Newcastle boss Eddie Howe. “We’d love him to commit his future here. We’d love him to stay long-term at Newcastle and continue his excellent start to his career here.
“When you look at the broader piece of what he's done since he's arrived at the football club, I think he's been magnificent for us. We need to try and help him get back to his very best levels. And if that means signing a new contract, then I'm all for that, to help him be settled and concentrate on his football.”

However, several Liverpool fans are claiming Gordon opted not to complete a move to Liverpool as he didn’t want to compete on the left flank with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz.
In response to news Gordon was set to commit his future to Newcastle, one person wrote on Twitter: “He saw Luis Diaz and Gakpo cook this season and though ‘f**k that’.
“Good player, wish him well at #NUFC.”

Another added: “Stats so far this season: Cody Gakpo 258 minutes played (2 goals 1 assist). Luis Díaz 383 minutes played (5 goals 1 assist). Anthony Gordon 451 minutes played (1 goal)”
A third said: “Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz took that Anthony Gordon bid personal! Absolutely Balling This Season.”
