Lee Carsley’s decision to overlook one player for his England squad has left fans fuming.
Ahead of next month’s UEFA Nations League fixtures, Carsley has named his first Three Lions squad since taking interim charge on the back of Gareth Southgate’s departure.
Southgate stepped down as England boss after his men were beaten by Spain in the final of Euro 2024 in Germany.
On Thursday, Carsley named his England squad:

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Rico Lewis, Tino Livramento, Harry Maguire, John Stones.
Midfielders: Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher, Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice.

Reacting on social media, Crystal Palace fans have been left fuming over Carsley’s decision not to include Adam Wharton.
One fan said: “Adam Wharton is our most important player so I simply don't care that he's not been called up to a bunch of friendlies.”
Another tweeted: “We want Adam Wharton. Honestly leaving him out of the squad is criminal.”

A third fan added: “Why can't I see Adam Wharton in the England squad?”
Someone else wrote: “Adam Wharton didn't even get a call the only no.6 for England who can play passes exceeding 10m range.”
A fifth commented: “I’m sorry but where is Adam Wharton in this England squad. Lee mate what are you doing.”

When asked about the decision to pick Angel Gomes, Carsley said: “Angel’s very technical, controls the game with his skill and technique. Very determined, excellent attitude. Technically and tactically excellent. I think he’s a player that people are going to really be excited to see.”
He added: “It’s important to also recognise how well (England) done in the past. We’ve come so close (to winning a trophy) but I thought it was important to put some fresh faces in the squad.”
