Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has suffered an embarrassing injury days before England take on Slovakia.

On Sunday, Gareth Southgate’s team will continue their quest for Euro 2024 glory when they take on Slovakia at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Ahead of the match, it was reported that Declan Rice and Kieran Trippier missed training on Thursday after Phil Foden left the camp temporarily on Wednesday to attend to a family matter.

On Thursday afternoon, it was spotted that Newcastle star Gordon had a graze on his chin.

As reported by BBC football news reporter Alex Howell, who wrote: “Anthony Gordon has been pictured this morning with a graze on his chin, nose and with some red marks on his hands and wrists.

“We've been told that he fell off of a bike yesterday at the England camp.”

He added: “We've seen pictures of the team riding bikes around their base on recovery days and it looks like Gordon has taken a fall.

“All is good though and the Newcastle forward is in full training.”

Defender Marc Guehi was asked about Gordon’s bike accident, the Crystal Palace man laughed and said: “He fell off his bike. The boys went out on a bike ride.

“I actually wasn’t there but I heard about it. I was actually talking to him and wasn’t really paying attention. Turned around and I saw the massive gash on his chin but he’s okay.”

Gordon had a decent season with Newcastle which led to him being included in Southgate’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2024.

However, the 23-year-old only made his first appearance of the competition on Tuesday night against Slovenia, coming on in the 89th minute for Phil Foden.

Speaking after the match, Gordon said: “I won't lie to you, it's frustrating because I want to play, I think every player here does. It's difficult because we have so many good players.

“Watching from the sideline at any game at any level is hard. You just want to come on the pitch because you feel you can make an impact, I felt like I did when I came on.”

He added: “Training is so good every day and it's just not clicking. Hopefully in the coming games it will because we need to start attacking teams and dominating games.”
