England fans name one axed player who would have changed the game during Iceland defeat

England fans name one axed player who would have changed the game during Iceland defeat

England were in action against Iceland at Wembley.

England fans are adamant that Gareth Southgate has made a huge error after the Three Lions produced a poor display against Iceland.

On Friday night, England arrived at Wembley looking to finish off their Euro 2024 preparations with a win against Iceland.

However, Southgate’s men were not at the races as Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson’s goal in the 12th minute sealed a 1-0 win for the visitors.

The result means England will head into next week’s Euro 2024 opener against Serbia on a back of a disappointing defeat.

Reacting on social media, fans were adamant that Jack Grealish, who was left out of Southgate’s final 26-man squad, would have changed the game.

One fan said: “If only we had a player like Grealish on the bench to help us unlock this top tier Iceland defence.”

Another tweeted: “This is why I was so agaisnt the leaving out of someone like Grealish, people tried to jump on it saying he has been rubbish, yes he has, but the difference with him over Maddison is Grealish is a big game player, he is an asset off the bench if we need a result either way.”

A third fan added: “Gareth hoping to bore them into submission with sideways and backwards play….If only we had a creative midfielder like Grealish, Maddison…oh wait a minute….”

Someone else wrote: “Sorry but Jack Grealish must be laughing at this. Southgate is shocking.”

A fifth commented: “Is it possible to bring back Grealish and bin off Southgate?”

Another fan said: “If only Southgate picked Grealish, he would have for sure changed this game and will continue to do so in the tournament. Southgate will live to regret this decision.”

Apart from Grealish, James Maddison, Jarrad Branthwaite, Curtis Jones, James Trafford, Jarell Quansah and Harry Maguire were also left out of the final squad.
