Mauricio Pochettino 'involved in awkward moment' Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after Carabao Cup final defeat

Mauricio Pochettino 'involved in awkward moment' Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after Carabao Cup final defeat

Mauricio Pochettino appeared to be involved in an awkward moment with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino appeared to blank owner Todd Boehly after losing the Carabao Cup final.

The Blues were beaten in extra time by a Liverpool side missing a slew of key players, with Virgil van Dijk popping up with the winner just when penalties were looming.

Liverpool had to call upon a plethora of young, inexperienced players due to their injury crisis but the rookies performed admirably to ensure Jurgen Klopp leaves Liverpool with a trophy in his final campaign.

It was a huge missed opportunity for Chelsea and after the game, a video involving Pochettino did the rounds on social media.

As he went to collect his runners up medal, the Argentine appeared to ignore Boehly.

The American made a movement to Pochettino but he had already gone past him and it was too late.

After the snub, Pochettino shook hands with Boehly's right-hand man Behdad Eghbali and shared a moment with some young children.

Fans have joked that the former Spurs and Southampton manager could be on his way out after the controversial clip.

Chelsea's last three domestic cup finals have all been against Liverpool and each one has ended in defeat.

But they have now become the first English club to lose six successive domestic finals, with their last triumph coming against Manchester United in the 2017/18 campaign.

On commentary, Gary Neville referred to Chelsea as the "Blue billion pound bottlejobs".

Pochettino was asked about that in his post-match interview and said he felt the comment was "not fair", while comparing the age groups between the sides.

“I don’t hear what he said but if you compare the age of the two groups, I think it is similar," he explained in a post-match press conference.

“But look, I have a good relationship with Gary and I don’t know how I can take this but I respect his opinion. Of course, we made a few changes like [Conor] Gallagher and [Ben] Chilwell in extra time but it is true we didn’t keep the energy that was how we finished in the second half.

“I don’t know how you can describe this situation but for sure I feel proud of the players, I think they made a big effort.

“We are a young team and nothing to compare with Liverpool because they finished also with a few young players. It is impossible to compare and he knows that. He knows the dynamics are completely different.

“I think it is not fair to talk in this way if he says that. But we are going to keep strong and believing in this project and see what we can do in the future.”
