Declan Rice sent off for the 'worst red card decision you will ever see' that left commentators stunned

Declan Rice sent off for the 'worst red card decision you will ever see' that left commentators stunned

Declan Rice was shown two yellow cards against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Arsenal fans have been left seething over midfielder Declan Rice’s sending-off against Brighton and Hove Albion.

On Saturday afternoon, the Gunners welcomed Brighton to the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta’s men got off to a great start as they dominated the match and eventually went 1-0 up thanks to Kai Havertz’s goal in the 38th minute.

At the start of the second half, Arsenal were reduced to 10 men after midfielder Rice was shown a second yellow card.

Originally, fans were furious after replays showed that the Englishman was accidentally kicked by Brighton star Joel Veltman, who missed the ball.

However, it was then realised that Rice actually nudged the ball away from the Brighton defender in a bid to delay the restart.

Momentarily, TNT Sports commentators Darren Fletcher and Ally McCoist were left confused as to why Rice was shown a second booking.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “That is absolutely scandalous from the referee. I cannot believe that decision. Joao Pedro launched the ball halfway up the pitch earlier and wasn't booked, then Rice gets sent off for THAT? I honestly can't believe it. Have some common sense for f**k sake.”

Another tweeted: “How does Declan rice get a red card for getting kicked????”

A third fan added: “That Declan Rice red card has to be one of the worst of the season. Veltman kicks out and kicks the ball towards Rice. The ball is also moving so can’t take a free kick like that. Also very soft foul by Rice.”

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan added: “What the f**k was that? Declan Rice sent off for being kicked to pieces? Worst red card decision I’ve ever seen.”

McCoist said on TNT Sports: “I don't know what Declan Rice is meant to do.

“It looked like it was a kick-out at him! I think Joel Veltman is lucky to stay on the pitch with his kick out.”

Rice is set to miss Arsenal's next Premier League match, a huge clash against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
