Luis de la Fuente has revealed who he has appointed as his first Spanish national team captain, with the decision causing quite a stir across social media.
Spanish journeyman Alvaro Morata - who has had stints in LaLiga, Serie A and the Premier League across a 12 year professional career - has been named as Spain's new captain.
The decision to name Morata as the new Spain captain comes following the retirement of Barcelona holding midfielder Sergio Busquets and PSG defender Sergio Ramos, who both opted to hang up their international boots earlier this year.
However the decision to appoint the Atletico Madrid striker as the first choice captain for La Furia Roja is one that few had seen coming, with fans flocking to social media to portray their thoughts on the appointment.

"Spain went from the greatest captain of all time to Alvaro Morata" one tweeted.
A second added: "Wtf has happened in Spain for Alvaro Morata to end up being captain of the national team? I like the guy and he's a lot of things, but captain should not be one of them, surely?"
"Never in my entire footballing life have I ever imagined Spain going from Casillas, Xavi and Iniesta to Alvaro freaking Morata as captain of the Spanish National Team. My god how far the Spanish National Team has fallen" a third exclaimed.
"Morata being your captain is legit the lowest of lows" tweeted a fourth.

The 30-year-old has endured an up and down club career since making his senior debut for Real Madrid's B team back in 2010.
The Spaniard has had largely underwhelming stints with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Juventus before returning to the Spanish top flight with Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2022.
Despite his domestic struggles, Morata has impressed when donning the international jersey, scoring 30 goals in 61 appearances for his homeland.
Morata's former Real Madrid teammate Dani Carvajal has been appointed vice-captain as Luis de la Fuente begins his reign as manager of the Spanish national team.
