Germany legend claims Harry Kane can only score tap-ins and 'hasn't done anything' for England at Euro 2024

Germany legend claims Harry Kane can only score tap-ins and 'hasn't done anything' for England at Euro 2024

Harry Kane has come under fire for his performances at Euro 2024.

England captain Harry Kane has been slammed by a Germany legend for his performances so far at Euro 2024.

Kane, 30, has scored twice for the Three Lions at the Euros, having netted against both Denmark and in Sunday's dramatic round of 16 win over Slovakia.

But the Bayern Munich forward has struggled to produce his best form at the tournament and has come under fire from both fans and pundits.

Former Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Didi Hamann, who played 59 times for Germany, has slammed Kane for his performances, claiming England would perhaps be better suited in attack with someone else.

"If you're looking for a player that can score a tap-in or a close-range header, Kane does a job, but if that is all you offer as England's main striker and captain, then I think some of the strikers from the past twenty or thirty odd years would fancy lacing up their boots and having a go," Hamann told Gambling Zone.

"It's not enough. The fact that England are still in the tournament has nothing to do with Harry Kane.

"[Jude] Bellingham got his goal, [Ivan] Toney flicked things on for Kane. He needs to do something at this tournament – he hasn't done anything in four games other than put away a couple of sitters."

Gareth Southgate's men were on the brink of an embarrassing exit just days ago, before Bellingham's heroics ensured an extra thirty minutes would be played against Slovakia.

Kane, however, powered home a vital header in extra time to help England on the way to a 2-1 win, setting up a quarter-final clash with Switzerland on Saturday.

Hamann is still not impressed with the former Tottenham striker at the tournament, admitting his form in Germany hasn't filled him with confidence heading into next season and beyond.

“He's the biggest earner in Munich. He's got three years left on his contract," he added.

"If I was watching him as a Bayern official, I would be very, very concerned about his ability to be the main man at this level.

“I said a week ago that if I was working for Bayern and watching Kane’s performances for England, I would be having cold sweats."
